A couple of weeks after my interview, I found out through email that I was actually successful! This felt so amazing; the work I'd put in had paid off, and I haven't really stopped buzzing with excitement ever since.
After this soon followed the paperwork. Now, I knew visa stuff can be tedious, and confusing, and generally not so much a pleasant experience, but I didn't know it could be this horrible. Basically, we had to fill out an online application form. Sounds easy enough, right? Wrong. This form was impossible - it took me hours, and two separate days even to complete. The fundamental problem with it was that even though it said that it would "time-out" after like 20 minutes, in reality, this time was roughly 2 minutes, on average. On my penultimate attempt, I got to the very last stage, where I could print my whole application form. Nanoseconds before I clicked print, it just so had to time-out. I had to start over. I was not impressed.
Eventually, it was all done, and printed. The documents were then sent to the US Embassy. Following this, we had to attend a visa interview there. Perhaps one of the most scariest buildings, with the most angry people, I have ever been to. The interview itself was fine, but it was just the security measures that were involved in letting us in and out that were most scary.
So, the visa application wasn't the nicest process, but I guess it could've been a lot worse...

Bloggering:
As a successful applicant for this amazing award, I thought I ought to blog it.
Just to clarify, by no means is this official, nor should it act like a "success guide" for future applicants. It is simply a personal account of this once-in-a-lifetime experience. For more official information, check out the US-UK Fulbright website, where you'll also find my own bio.
However, if you've stumbled across this blog, and are hoping to apply yourself, or just simply have questions, I'd be more than happy to find you the answers. Just bear in mind, my account is not the be all and end all of the Fulbright Summer. I do hope I don't put anyone off - I would urge you all to apply (provided you're eligible of course!) as it no doubt will be a life-changing experience.
Lastly, to my friends in the UK, I will miss you all so terribly! Enjoy your Summer, stay safe, and get some well deserved rest.
Take care, Cheng x
